National Archives Records Administration (Prime)
Richard Nixon Presidential Library

Challenge:

The National Archives and Records Administration’s (NARA) Office of Presidential Libraries wanted to merge government maintained documents with those maintained at the privately-funded Richard Nixon Presidential library. As part of this “coming together,” NARA came to LFS to develop the new, unified Richard Nixon Presidential Web site. With the need to appeal to a diverse audience, including the general public, researchers, students (of all ages), educators, government employees, group tour planners, and journalists, LFS’ challenge was to develop a ‘look and feel’ communications strategy, site map and design that would appeal to all visitors to the Web site.

Solution:

LFS determined that NARA needed a design that invoked an appreciation of the Library’s mission as both a serious research institution and a fun, educational place to visit – all while reflecting the Library’s place within the NARA and Presidential Libraries by incorporating the system’s logo and the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum logo. To address this challenge, LFS developed a design that was concurrent with the era – one that showed the innovation, advancements, pop culture and impact Nixon had on the late 60s and early 70s.

Result:

LFS developed a 600 page, 508 compliant Web site in PHP that included a dynamic calendar of events, Web survey (to continue to gain feedback for the needs of the evolving site) and user-friendly search functionality to quickly find information within this robust site. The site, launched in June of 2007, has received excellent reviews and visitor feedback.
