Small Business Administration,

National Women’s Business Council

Challenge:

The National Women’s Business Council (NWBC) is a bipartisan public policy council dedicated to promoting initiatives, policies and programs that support women's business enterprises in the public and private sector. The womenbiz.gov Web site had not been updated in more than five years and necessitated a rebuild: both the site’s appearance and content were outdated, and contained nearly 100 broken links. NWBC required a firm that thoroughly understood the process of government contracting and that could design a bold, content-rich, user-friendly site.

Solution:

Prior to the site’s launch, LeapFrog Solutions (LFS) conducted focus groups with the small business liaisons from multiple government agencies, as well as facilitated online surveys with women-owned small businesses, to learn what the site needed in order to be a better resource. LFS then incorporated that feedback, as well as the findings from a Web site audit, into a new site plan. A site map was developed to better organize the site’s structure and to minimize click-throughs. LFS’ site design incorporated a new ‘look and feel’ of women being empowered. Using interactive best practices in tandem with targeted strategy and insight, LFS created a user-friendly site incorporating cascading style sheets.

Result:

The end result was a cutting-edge, easy-to-navigate Web site providing information and resources in a central location for women-owned businesses to follow when contracting with the Federal government. Additionally, LFS designed womenbiz.gov in a way that it could be easily maintained and updated by the staff of SBA’s NWBC.
